It’s vital to recognize that some of the largest corporations, like Amazon, Meta, and Uber, have donated millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign yet often escape scrutiny. The hypocrisy of these drama groups, which use platforms like Facebook and Instagram (Meta) that have supported Trump, while targeting small businesses on those very platforms, is glaring.

Most nail polishes are solvent-based, meaning they rely on liquids that evaporate to leave behind a hard film on your nails. The primary solvents, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, provide the polish with its thin, easy-to-apply texture. However, with exposure to air over time, these solvents evaporate, causing the polish to become thick, stringy, or even solidified.

How to Thin Nail Polish

For Slightly Thickened Polish

If your nail polish has started to thicken but is not completely solidified, you can easily fix it by adding a bit of nail polish thinner. Here’s how:

1.  Add Drops of Thinner: Begin by adding a few drops of nail polish thinner to the bottle.
2.  Mix: Roll or shake the bottle to mix the thinner with the polish. Yes, you CAN shake. Contrary to some opinions, shaking will not ruin the polish or cause permanent bubbles. In fact, it is often necessary to give it a vigorous shaking in order to thoroughly mix the formula. If you plan to use the nail polish immediately, let the bottle sit for a sufficient period to allow any possible bubbles time to dissipate. 
3. Check Consistency: After mixing, check the consistency of the polish. If it’s still too thick, repeat the process by adding a few more drops until you achieve the desired texture.

For Very Dried Out or Solidified Nail Polish

If your nail polish has become hard and solidified, more effort will be needed to revive it:

1. Add Thinner: Start by adding about 1/8 teaspoon of nail polish thinner to the bottle.
2. Let It Sit: Allow the polish to sit overnight. This will give the thinner time to work its magic by absorbing into the dried ingredients. No doubt It will be very thirsty and suck it all up!
3. Test Again: The next day, check the consistency. If it’s still thick, repeat the process, adding more thinner as necessary until the polish returns to its original state.
4. Stir It: Stubborn dried out polish stuck to the bottom will require stirring. Using a solvent proof tool or stick like a wooden coffee stirrer or a metal paper clip works wonders and will not melt into the polish. Do not use a plastic stirrer or straw as it will likely disintegrate. 

How to Thin Nail Polish & What Not to Add: Avoid Water, Alcohol, or Acetone

1. Water: Adding water to nail polish will cause it to clump and separate. It will not mix. Remember, standard air-dry nail polish is oil based. Oil and water do not mix. It will become unusable and there will be no turning back.
2. Alcohol: While it may seem like a suitable option, alcohol can break down the formulation of the polish, leading to a compromised finish and drying time. It can also dry out the polish, making it brittle, more difficult to manage and result in excessive chipping.
3. Acetone: Although acetone is a common nail polish remover, it should never be used to thin polish. It can completely alter the chemical structure of the nail polish, leading to a gummy texture that is almost impossible to work with. Think about it.  Acetone eats through nail polish. It's purpose is to break it down quickly and remove it. Imagine what havoc it will wreak on the beautiful colorants and special effect pigments in the polish! It will destroy the vibrancy and performance of your most prized collection of  holographic, multichrome, magnetic and thermal nail polish.

Types of Nail Polish That Should Not Be Thinned Using Nail Polish Thinner

Here is a list of types of nail polish that should not be thinned using standard oil based nail polish thinner that contains ethyl or butyl acetate:

In my professional opinion, no. The use of the term non-toxic nail polish ingredients in marketing nail polish products can be misleading if the products still contain chemicals such as nitrocellulose, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, and alcohol. These chemicals still have some level of toxicity that may cause irritation to certain individuals.

While these chemicals may not be as harmful as some of the more notorious ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, or DBP, their presence in a product labeled as "non-toxic" can be seen as contradictory. It's important for brands to be transparent and accurate in their marketing claims to avoid misleading consumers.

Further, the concentration and potential risks associated with these chemicals can vary. Many nail polish brands strive to use these ingredients within safe limits and comply with regulatory standards. It's always a good idea to carefully read the ingredient list and do your own research to make an informed decision about the products you choose to use.

When the temperature starts to drop, the effects of the cold weather can be felt in many areas of our lives. One of the most common and annoying of these effects is the impact it has on our fingernails. From peeling, splitting and chipping to discoloration and damage, cold weather can wreak havoc on our nails. Let's see why so we can best fight the causes!

We now know the cold weather of winter can have a surprisingly detrimental affect on fingernails. When temperatures plummet, the air contains less humidity which cause the growth rate of nails to slow, become brittle and flaky and are more prone to peeling, thinning and breaking. And since nails are made mostly of keratin, a type of protein, exposure to cold temperatures can cause the nails to become dehydrated, leading to further breakage.

The cold weather also impairs the ability of the nails to absorb moisture, which can exacerbate the problem making them more vulnerable to nail layers peeling, splitting and chipping.This is especially true for people who use their hands a lot, requiring constant washing as do medical professionals, or tasks that involve touching porous materials that can pull moisture from the hands and fingers such as paper bags, paper boxes and cloth textiles. Dry chafed cracked hands and fingers are an open highway for harmful bacteria into your body, so lotion-up and protect yourself! Tip: Soaking sore raw hangnails and cuticles in very warm to nearly hot clean water several times a day helps speed up healing.

Cold weather can also have a detrimental affect on the appearance of nails. Nails that are exposed to the cold are more likely to become discolored and dull. As with many of the effects cold weather has on our bodies, nail paint chipping can become more prevalent during the cold weather winter months. Due to a decrease in temperature combined with dry climate the cold air can draw out the moisture from our nails, causing them to constantly shrink and expand which has a direct affect on the nail polish adhesion. To test this theory yourself, try painting any flexible object, wait for it to completely dry and then flex it back and forth. Notice the cracks and chipping the more times it flexes, shrinks and expands.  In addition, during application as the temperature drops, the nail polish will become thicker and more difficult to apply. This can cause the polish to chip and flake off more easily than it would at a higher temperature. Keeping the nail polish at moderate room temperature during application will help resolve application issues and help with adhesion.

How to Prevent Nail Paint Chipping in Cold Weather

The most effective way to prevent nail polish chipping in cold weather is to properly prepare your nails before applying the polish. Start by soaking your nails in warm water for about five minutes. This will help to soften the eponychium and make it more pliable. After soaking your nails, use a cuticle stick to gently push back the cuticles and trim any excess skin. This will help ensure that the nail polish has a smooth surface to adhere to. Next, use a fine nail buffer to gently buff and clean away any minor ridges, imperfections and built-up oils and debris from the surface of your nails. Taking these steps will prime the nail plate and help the nail polish to adhere more easily; just like you would do when priming, preparing and painting any other surface!

Finally, apply a thin layer of high quality strengthening and  bonding base coat as a nail hardener to your nails before applying the nail polish. This will help to protect the nails and make them less prone to chipping. When applying the nail polish, be sure to use thin layers, even when using high opacity or highly pigmented nail colors, and allow each layer to dry thoroughly before applying the next. This will help to ensure that the polish will be less likely to chip or flake off.
